What is 'Excessive Photoshop Manipulation'?
Is it just being over zealous with the sliders?
Or, is it making a ridiculous image by adding 'weird and wonderful' extra elements that are out of place, etc?

excessive PS manip? might i add a few important factors to a topic not well thought out, there goes fractals, computer 3D as well. Photoshop means a Photo to start. yet this will show what is a Manip and not! which is a problem in the selections in the categories when some places an upload. many think decorating is a manipulation when its not!
a Manipulation is the movement or adding, taking away pixels...not decorating them. it takes PS or a program that will allow layering and even layer masking. it will also challenge all the skills you have and your imagination to its max! for that? its a great topic only.. but only few will enter. you just cant add the pic into a program and move some sliders around and call it a Manip. on top of that you either have to use your own pic's or ones made up in PS (or a program like it..yet not as poweful)
i create these all the time & they take a lot of patience, the time frame given usually takes me down to the wire to enter on time. im all up for the challenge! i doubt many will be. i might even sit this one out to see the results. many i have entered recently have been true manips with so many layers, adjustment layers, and blending modes to each? its hard to keep track when you have 15 to 25 layers up at a time. i wonder why the person that chose this one didnt care to say in the topic polls..especailly when there seems to be so much confusion to this topic?

Now dont get me wrong, you dont have to have PS to make a good Manip, Gimp is a very good free program. takes some time learning how to "truly" layer one photo (or the elements) over each other and blend them in seamlessly...so thats a true excessive Manip. I suppose a fractal or a 3d computer generated could be considered... so some could argue that fact...yet a photoshop manip starts with a single photo and an idea...not to mention a lot of imagination.
i think it should be added... "that you can only use what you take with your camera" as for another rule...no free online pic's can be added, thats what i do! remember the key word here was "Excessive"

then it would be impossible for me to enter the next contest. when its put that way in which you just explained it? i dont think i would be capable of doing excessive then. i just wouldnt be happy with whatever i created, or if i even could.
i still feel a few genre are going to be left out or very restricted. now thats something that has to be thought about before anyone picks a title or topic. what we want is to see is a mix of!.. not only photography...but of the many talented members that have knowledge of fractals, 3D ect..as well. that reason alone is very challenging! its something that Les states over and over. "make sure all genre can participate". so again im not sure who or why that one was picked. im not sure many even know what it is. entree's will be interesting at the least! many will get it wrong with no pixel movement done at all...just decorating and adding lipstick.
i still stick to my guns on what is a Manip and what isnt one! pixels have to be moved(cutout) replaced and rearranged so they are no longer in the same state in which the photo was presented in the first place. filters, HDR and as you put it "glitter"...which is a prefect word to give it! those are decorated with just adjustment layers, one right after the other by sliding bars and pushing buttons, dont matter how many you place over it, the picture is still the same.
if a woman puts on makeup & a beautiful dress for a night out? shes still the same woman, just enhance to show her true beauty that society has decided those guidelines for..what is and what isnt beauty? just in the eye of the beholder, yet what is a Manip and not one? thats simple and is black and white when following the guidlines...thats all im trying to say.
now not to stray to from away for the point i was trying to drive across in this topic. many members miss categorize their uploads as such..in true Manipultion! filters used only? or a HDR tone map is not a Manip! just the start of one. and such changes is only proven with a before and after. which is something that would be a nice built in feature to the site, as an option for us members to use if they like, without going through the hassle of uploading it to an online storage with a hyperlink placed, or the next day flooding the Caedes servers with even more data, maybe a small thumbnail added with a link built into the site by just checking a box allowing for easy uploading & access to it with a link built into the site...i suppose that question or idea has been already presented. there's lots of people that like to see the before and afters. not to mention a great feature other pic sites dont have..or so i was led to believe anyways.

I think its something all genre/ fractals and computer 3D can achieve very easily.

It could be people, animals or a manipulation of some sort. i dont think anyone would be left out? just a personally opinion for an idea is all. seems like just about everything has been pick before.
