I vote for simplicity. It's a great challenge for those of us who go out and look for a new shot for a contest, or for those who create fractals or digital art from scratch. Simplicity will force photographers and artists to focus on quality, composition, emotional impact, rather than us being able to hide behind lovely colours or scenery with lots of different elements distracting from the overall gestalt of the image. It's wide enough for all kinds of subjects but specific enough that you can't put in just any old good image. I think it doesn't leave anyone out and it invites us all to think about things like elegant composition, lifting that as a priority over other possible elements in an image.
Whoever posted that topic, good deal dude. :)

Okay..."simplicity" I tried to convince myself that the other topics may be more interesting but somehow simplicity always takes over :) even in my everyday life I'd choose simple things over any more interesting yet complicated things. :)
I'm the one that suggested Insect Macro. I try to pick an area that will stretch me and help me grow with my photography.
But I'm willing to jump on the Simplicity band wagon. Here is a suggestion for anyone willing. If the goal is Simplicity how do you approach it, what do you look for? My brain is way to complicated to wrap around this one.
Philip, try using some of the (ahem) infinite reference resources available online. there's google, of course, but also the plethora of photography and/or art sites should be a good starting point. Somewhere, someone has probably even posted a blog about it.
Happy Hunting, and by all means, share your bounty with the rest of us savages ;-)
If you don't grasp the depth of "simplicity" try looking up a synonym such as ELEGANT. Particularly as it is used in science and philosophy. Nothing shallow or boring or simplistic about simplicity.
Hi Steve, As one who did vote for infinity in the last contest and yet did not enter an image... I can only speak for myself...but I did WANT to participate. I looked through my existing photos and kept the contest subject in mind when I was out with my camera... yet in the end I was NOT inspired by what I had to offer, hence did not enter something just for the sake of entering. Feeling that if I were not inspired surely no one else would be by what I was coming up with thus far.... As for simplicity as a "subject" I don't think it means simple as in not trying, I feel it is meant to convey uncomplicated less cluttered yet high quality images...(?)
Hey Lauren, I guess your idea of "combative" is in a very different spot on the bell curve than my idea of combative. :) So far all I've read here is a discussion related to content and meaning. No pejoratives, no personal attacks, no linguistic evidence of malice or heat. Perhaps you mistake directness, bluntness and a lack of softening modifiers for combat?
Mikel.
I know directness & bluntness & there's no reason you can't be both & still use "softening modifiers." But that's just my opinion, not that it matters. Besides, we all know that the next topic's going to be Simplicity anyway so I shall bow my poor linguistically challenged self out.
"Linguistically challenged!" Might that be slyly combative self deprecation? :) As to the issue being settled, we've seen voting reversals here before.
In previous topic dicusssions there has been much said in favour of inclusive topics that all may participate in.I have nothing against insect macros but it would preclude many from entering. There are plenty of insects about but not everyone has a Macro lens to use and it would exclude other genres of artistry.
I suggested once before that separate contests for Photography and other forms of art may be a good idea but it was not well received.
I have voted for Simplicity as I think it provides a challenge to all who want to enter.
My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust
Well, if it was "Insect Macro" I would certainly be out, because I have no desire to look at an insect any closer than I can help!
*off to clean up the cockroach that Dusky killed* :-(

For me, simplicity is about conveying the most with the least. Subtle use of shadows hinting at unseen objects etc. Some of the best abstract and surreal images are simple ones It is certainly an inclusive option and one I look forward to entering.
Simplicity, as a photographic, or broader, as an artistic topic, gives one a near-infinite (yeah, I know) number of things to shoot, draw, design, etc. On Redbubble, one might find a number of fine examples of simplicity. Photos only in this example, but I'm sure you guys will get the idea.
Of course, the standard advice to only use images with permission from the artist applies, as always.
People aren't going to remember the things you do. They're going to remember how you made people feel. Be kind, gracious, and appreciative.

Actually no. Only the first dozen or so. If you click on the "Featured Images" link, you'll see they're pages deep, and in rich color in many instances.
Sorry, I was just referring to the first page. I hope anyone looking there for inspiration doesn't stop with that. I like a good B&W picture at times, but I'm glad not to be color-blind!
