Reflections was the topic in February. Is there a different intent for Reflective as a topic?

Try to keep in mind, when suggesting a topic:

i) Open to all genres of art. Not just photography.

ii) Add a short description (one or two lines is sufficient) , so 'we' know what the artistic aim/intention of the subject matter is.

iii) Try not to repeat previous topics.

Although I did not suggest perspective, it sounds like a good idea. Images with strong perspective lines in them, ideal for all media. Good use of vanishing points etc. Open to 3D Mandlebrot artists, although 2D will have to use some imagination. Should make people think a little about composition as well.

There is also the more abstract concept of perspective to portray as in "a particular attitude towards or way of regarding something; a point of view"

I think that this topic is open to every kind of creation.
The link between two subjects can be very interesting to work on !

It might be helpful if whomever did post "perspective" (I voted for it) shed some light on what direction they wanted the theme to take, how they might've imagined it being interpreted, and as Chris touched on, whether this was to be taken as a compositional directive, or something more abstract.

"Perspective" does sound intriguing and inviting.. and ... more so, open to all genres of art.

I am curious, though.. in light of the creative efforts put forth in the "Infinity" contest that was held ... of the difference between the two topics?

Perhaps, Chris has covered that in his post above?

Infinity certainly has a lot of common features to perspective, since that is where vanishing points exist. In mitigation, I would suggest that as Infinity was held 15 months ago we let it go for now as it is no longer possible to remove it. I see that someone wanted some more guidance on what is wanted. Isn't the idea that the concept is left open to interpretation by the artists? I rather feel I failed on the last contest by putting in such an obvious image. The concepts running through my head for perspectives have nothing to do with vanishing points.

This sentence intentionally kept short.

I understand that infinity was a previous subject months ago, but I can see that perspective could contain many graceful ways to get there.

Last words from me, and then it will be left up to your creativity and imagination..

Already posted above are the common approaches to the subject of perspective in art. (Applies to photography, as well.) Namely; "One, Two and Three-Point Perspective".

Some more background on.. perspective..

"Perspective in photography is a very important composition technique"

The above article covers:

Linear Perspective in photography.
Height Perspective in photography.
Aerial perspective in photography.

And..

The use of relative or diminishing size.
How do you show scale and proportions in your images?
How do you change the perspective?

"Composition: Putting Things in Perspective"

Size and Distance - One Object.
Perspective - Two or More Objects.

Showing Perspective:

Blocking.
Relative Size.
Converging Parallel Lines.
Lack of Sharpness or Contrast.

"Composition Masterclass: How to Get Perfect Perspective" (Video tutorial.)

With some examples of imagery.

Some more eye candy, with respect to "One Point Perspective":

"29 Examples of One Point Perspective Black and White Photography"

The third photo down of the cat.. is particularly striking to my eyes. And not necessarily all about a vanishing point.

Check out the eleventh image down from the top as well.

"Isn't the idea that the concept is left open to interpretation by the artists?"

True.. true.

The above information is merely some food for thought, for getting out of the gate. 'Creatively forearming' if needed, in short.

And..

I look forward to viewing your interpretations. As it does look like "Perspective" is going to be the next contest topic.

But just to clarify something, I can actually enter a newly uploaded image (which this is) into a contest. It just wouldn't be very nice of me, seeing how I had it plastered up on the contest poll page.

Again, some very nice examples, Chris...and Rob, hope I didn't blow it for you...didn't occur to me you may want to enter that image in the contest, especially as it was posted before the start of the contest and it was always my understanding entries had to be new and posted after the start of a contest...or am I mistaken?

Slight correction, Rob..

"You must be logged in and have uploaded an image since the contest topic was chosen in order to enter the contest."

Images must be uploaded after the contest topic is chosen.

Not simply from the time frame of the start of a contest selection topic (or prior).. and till the conclusion of the respective contest.

Les, Chris and Pat, my apologies. I really thought recently posted images were, in general, eligible for entry.

I agree with the rule in place. Very much so. Perhaps I was remembering an older, outdated rule? Oops! :-/
