Although I did not suggest perspective, it sounds like a good idea. Images with strong perspective lines in them, ideal for all media. Good use of vanishing points etc. Open to 3D Mandlebrot artists, although 2D will have to use some imagination. Should make people think a little about composition as well.
There is also the more abstract concept of perspective to portray as in "a particular attitude towards or way of regarding something; a point of view"
It might be helpful if whomever did post "perspective" (I voted for it) shed some light on what direction they wanted the theme to take, how they might've imagined it being interpreted, and as Chris touched on, whether this was to be taken as a compositional directive, or something more abstract.
"Perspective" does sound intriguing and inviting.. and ... more so, open to all genres of art.
I am curious, though.. in light of the creative efforts put forth in the "Infinity" contest that was held ... of the difference between the two topics?
Perhaps, Chris has covered that in his post above?
Here are the results of a couple quick google searches:
Infinity certainly has a lot of common features to perspective, since that is where vanishing points exist. In mitigation, I would suggest that as Infinity was held 15 months ago we let it go for now as it is no longer possible to remove it. I see that someone wanted some more guidance on what is wanted. Isn't the idea that the concept is left open to interpretation by the artists? I rather feel I failed on the last contest by putting in such an obvious image. The concepts running through my head for perspectives have nothing to do with vanishing points.
Last words from me, and then it will be left up to your creativity and imagination..
Already posted above are the common approaches to the subject of perspective in art. (Applies to photography, as well.) Namely; "One, Two and Three-Point Perspective".
The third photo down of the cat.. is particularly striking to my eyes. And not necessarily all about a vanishing point.
Check out the eleventh image down from the top as well.
"Isn't the idea that the concept is left open to interpretation by the artists?"
True.. true.
The above information is merely some food for thought, for getting out of the gate. 'Creatively forearming' if needed, in short.
And..
I look forward to viewing your interpretations. As it does look like "Perspective" is going to be the next contest topic. _______________________________________________________________
This sentence here.. is one of many in this post and the last one.
Great examples, Chris...looking forward to seeing what people here will come up with...and Here’s One already on site as another example...always happy to plug the work of a fellow caedesian...'course these things come with a price tag these days...my people will be in touch with your people, lol.
I'll sit out this party. ;-) But just to clarify something, I can actually enter a newly uploaded image (which this is) into a contest. It just wouldn't be very nice of me, seeing how I had it plastered up on the contest poll page.
Again, some very nice examples, Chris...and Rob, hope I didn't blow it for you...didn't occur to me you may want to enter that image in the contest, especially as it was posted before the start of the contest and it was always my understanding entries had to be new and posted after the start of a contest...or am I mistaken?
I think I'm right when I say that any new uploads are eligible, not just images uploaded after the start of the contest. But not to worry, Pat. It was my intent from the get-go to help from the sidelines, so no, nothing you did was wrong. :-)
Judging the entires for this contest will be extremely difficult, as there are numerous outstanding ones, presenting the theme is a variety of ways. Selecting only five - let me look at them all again. Kudos to the artists!
