Opus 40 is a nine ton monolith located in Saugartees, NY. The amazing thing about Opus 40 is the fact that the monolith and the thousands of rocks that form the sculptured base were hand placed primarliy by one man (Harvey Fite) over a period of 39 years.

Fantastic shot Les! Very clear, wonderful color and composition. I love it when an image comes with some educational info. Keep up the good work!

Please keep up the descriptive info. Nothing is a frustrating as a great image and not a single word of information about it. It really takes a great deal away from the image. Good work!

I saw something about him on the discovery channel. It also makes a lovely landscap with that gorgeous backdrop. As much as I don't like people in the shots, they're perfect here, they don't stand out and they're great for showing the gigantic scale of the whole construction

Oh, this photo looks even better in full screen. I love the clarity, you can easily see the branches of the trees in the background and the detailes of the rocks. High marks for this one.

I really like the perspective. I enjoy looking at the stones interlocked to form the approach to the monolith.
