Boundary post and historical marker noting the boundary line between Indian Territory (Cherokee land at this particular point), and the State of Kansas. This is the original stone post set by the surveyors back then. There is a closer view of the marker I posted yesterday, which you can read and get a little more info on this obscure piece of history. The marker and post are in an area along the bank of the Arkansas River where very few people ever see it. It was also what helped determine the starting line for the Oklahoma Land Rush.

If only stones could talk! At one time this marker was straight and clean and official. But now I can see that it has been weather-beaten, scraped, hammered, chipped, and probably kicked... as if many people over a long time have been very unhappy with what it means and delineates. I wonder if the hub of some wagon wheel took out that notch on the left side during the Land Rush. This pic is well lit and in nice focus. I hope you find more things of historical interest to shoot!
