War Memorial Park, Winfield, KS. The one in the background is a WWII homage, and the foreground is for those Kansans lost in the Vietnam War. The glare on the marble in front is the reflection of the sidewalks that let you enter this below ground level memorial.

I intended to get this into the emptiness contest, but it didn't pass inspection in time.

Hi, Larry...

This has nothing to do with my critique of your shot, but I thought I'd mention it. We have a similar memorial here in Atascadero with the names of soldiers inscribed in marble (at least I think it's marble). On this memorial the names on the right side have the normal looking left alignment, but the names on the left side have a right alignment. I guess it's an artistic thing but looks weird to me.

Typically people will tell you that I don't like photos of statues any more than I like statues of photos. A memorial is not exactly a statue, but close enough for me to wince. Nice symmetry in the natural border of trees. I don't care for white skies. When you figure out how to fix that, please let me know.

I hear ya on the statue thing, LOL! This is just a shot I took on a Sunday morning after having breakfast out, and it being a rare time than no people or vehichles were in the way, I stopped and took it even though the sunlight was against me. I really was not happy with it, but that empty sky as well as the overall empty feeling it brings on made me think of entering it in the contest. Unfortunately I downloaded it within hours of the contest end and that proved to not be enough time. I doubt I ever would have added it under normal circumstances, it's not a very interesting photo to most.
