Originally this picture was in color, but I didn't like the way the colors looked, as it was very dark. So I decided to turn the picture into a black and white, yet it still didn't look right, as there was a blank spot where the sun was supposed to be. Then I added the little dollop of light, and behold...the picture that you now see in front of you was created. As this is a new style of photograph for me, I would love to receive comments both good and bad, as I want to try and improve in this area of photography.

That tone really picks up the birds and the wonderful grasses in the foreground. The composition is well balanced.

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being. - Hermes

This image really stood out for me in the voting booth. A good B&W conversion isn't as easy as it seems and this one is very nice. You've kept quite a bit of detail in the shadows which gives it complexity. In the future, you could bracket your shots and stack them in Photoshop, then erase the parts that don't work. Or use a split neutral density filter to hold back the sky while exposing for the darker foreground.

To fix this blown-out sun I'd use the clone tool in Photoshop set to Darken. With a soft brush set to a low opacity and sampling from the unblown-out areas, I'd carefully paint back in detail. It's a cheat, but done right, only you'll know.

Great shot all in all though.

I do like the colours in your silouetted sunset shots, but think this works well black and white (sepia)...it brings out the mountain tones in the background.

The beer urges me on, the bewitching beer, which sets even a wise man to singing and to laughing gently and rouses him up to dance and brings forth words which were better unspoken. Homer (800 BC - 700 BC), The Odyssey (note: beer substituted for wine)

Good composition and good work after this. Black and white tones gives absolutely different atmposphere of the photo and I think it came out a lovely image.
