If the Caedes 'gods' do not wish this to stay up... it is fine by me. I understand completely. 8 megs for 1 pic instead of 800 K.              I used one of my Sunset pictures in a freeware program called Sqirlz Water Reflections. This program creates an animated .gif file. Here comes the touchy part for some... I posted it at a certain website and then downloaded it from them. It came back as an animated .jpg! I then decided to try posting it here to see what would happen. We'll soon see! And now I have! Success!¿! The 1024x768 (original) image is animated. The smaller (re-sized) image is not. :o) By the way, this is a shot near where the Fraser River empties into the Strait of Georgia with Vancouver Island in the distant background. It has been posted as a static jpeg previously. :o) Sunset in Ladner, BC Canada      Hmmmm... I just thought of something... Is this a re-work¿! :o)

This is a first as far as I know. Works well...nice work. It does not work when set as a desktop background.

Well I'm shocked too Con! I know of these programs and have even put some of my fractals through one. I got the reflections going and saved only the reflected part. It looks really cool! I'm very surprised that an animation works on here! So cool and beautiful!

Thank you for sharing those results. Nice choice, the colors here are very serene and lovely. As a still image I do prefer the original.

Hey Joanie... Don't get the hopes up for more of this... the files are too large. A 1024x768 is 8+ meg. A 1680x1050 is 18 or 20 meg depending on options. That's 10 times the regular size of a pic. There are sites out there that are aimed at animated pics (or AVIs). Check out Discussion Board Moving Water for some reading re. proggies and a couple websites. :o)
Everyone else... I don't know how long this will be here... I know it takes the space of at least 10 images... but you can keep in touch with either Greg or me at Discussion Board - Desktop Wallpaper etc. - Moving Water! :o)
Greg is having trouble with BG (background) in Vista while I don't in Win XP. :o)

A word or two of warning!
1) Do not stretch the image... excessive grain may appear.
2) It appears you cannot get it to work as a background in Vista!

My comment prior to Aitmn10 tells you how you can get info on Sqirlz and create a water animated image to fit your screen.

Also... make sure you start with a clean image... I may not have done so!
I was in a rush to test!   :o)

Con,

Good image, ...even without the manipulation. My only suggestion is related to the composition; INMO, using the 'rule of thirds' would have improved the overall image a bit - 1/3 of the image ground, 2/3 sky (or reversed).

Thanks for posting it!

Dennis, You may be right about the Rule! But there are two considerations to be taken into account with this image.
The first is that when I took the shot I knew nothing of Caedes and probably knew nothing about this Rule.
The second thing is that at times Rules must be broken... and this may be one of them... at least in my mind. When I trim 250 pixels from the bottom of the image, I don't mind what I see, but I seem to prefer the original. When I trim 250 pixels from the top, the picture weighs heavily on my mind. Now I know this is only my photographically uneducated opinion, but it is how I react to the Rule in this case.
I am stopping here, since I am running out of breath (ha!) and it is really almost a picture of nothing but colours! :o)

Edit:
The water effect was done not to enhance the image but simply as a trial of a program called Sqirly Water Reflections. I liked what I saw. Allowed myself to get excited about it. Posted it elsewhere. Tried something which fooled me for awhile (keeping those steps a secret!) And because of that I decided to try posting it here, as a test. Note my opening statement... and I am still ready to kill it immediately upon a certain request! And I will edit out much of this in time... maybe! :o)
This response in no way indicates bad feelings...as a matter of fact what I am attempting to do here is provide a friendly & good example of differing opinion.

Oh... and you are welcome, Dennis.
Have an absolutely marvelous day! :o)

The Straights of Georgia...a very beautiful area. That's where I went to a tiny restaurant and had an Ostrich burger. I have to say I liked it MUCH better than any other burger I've ever eaten. I love it up there..Hope to visit again one day. This photo is just magical. Perfect colours, perfect reflections..and so peaceful looking. Nice photography. Verena
