I think if you do this kind of shot again, you should get more of the instrument. There's not much unique about these keys and so it doesn't strike me with the personality you describe.
Thanx for the tip, I'll keep it in mind. The piano as a whole looks pretty much like any other, the only difference is that it's pretty old and must have had an amazing history. The keys were the focal point, because when I saw them I immediately thought "Whose fingers glided upon them".
I'll see if I can perhaps get a larger shot of the piano.
i actually like the layout of this a lot, it's iconic. the contrast is great, too. main critique is the framing/cropping, the keys look a little crooked and a little off center.
Critique noted. I intentionally set up the shot like it is to break down the normal symmatry of the keys and to give it a "different" look. I like it the way it is and to me it provides a little bit more "character". Thankfully tastes differ and this was a bit of an experiment though.
Initially I thought "more" because I figured the rest of it might have more rough wear on it. After looking at it again it may be even better if you focused on fewer keys and got more of the scratches, chips, etc. and/or shoot it from an angle you wouldn't typically see as an observer or performer. Bear in mind, I'm not a visual artist by any stretch.
In any case, I had meant to mention before that I really like the concept and the particular instrument you found for the shot -- but I guess that goes without saying. :)
Thanx. That's actually a great idea. I'll see if I can get access to it again, and then just focus on a few keys... there were some that were really worn out.
