Beautiful shot of an unusual and gorgeous flower. Definitely a 10/10 (as always, of course...smile) but since I've never seen one of these before, this one is going into my Favorites in a big hurry. Great job! :)

Agree with Mary. It's a flower I've never seen as well.

It's part of what is called "Fynbos" and it can only be found in South Africa. The Protea is also the National Flower of South Africa. I would have liked to take some more shots of Proteas, but there was a huge veld fire in the mountains where they occur in my area, and they are extremely hard to find now.

Beautiful shot of a rare flower. I was saddened to hear of the veld fire. We saw many along the coast near George several years ago. Tragic loss.

Luckily veld fires are needed for the continued existance of fynbos... so they'll be back next year!
