This is a digital matte painting/3D composition of a new castle I've been working on. There's a lot of detail yet to go, but I'm getting tired of working on it, so I thought I'd share it as is. I like the idea of soaring bridges on castles. I don't think it was done very often in the middle ages, but hey...that's why we're artists. Perhaps Hoggswarts Castle inspired me. As I recally it has a cool bridge between sections of the castle. Enjoy and please comment.

I’ve been looking at this image for ages. I’m amazed by the level of detail and the overall realism you have created. The mountain looks a little surreal it also looks like it has waterfall, which fascinates me. I hope you get around to finishing it one day.

Awesome detail, Peter! An incredible castle indeed. The only thing I see that may need some more finetuning is the mountain on the right. Great work! Wen

Incredible- like the bridges, and the detail is amazing, right down to the shadows.

Your best yet, IMO. Pity about the cut off tower, and personally I don't think the blue mountains are necessary, they detract from the reality of the image a bit for me.

I guess I should have worked on it a bit more before posting it. Yes that's going to be a waterfall. I started it and haven't finished it yet. I'm working out a technique, but I don't really like the damn mountain. I've done much better ones in other images (Like the Tori Gate) This one was painted in in photoshop using parts of mountain photos. And you're right, I should have included the top of the tower, but as I pull back the composition suffers. and to you Deus, How could you have missed such a wonderful castle during your travels in the Highlands of Scotland.

Fantastic piece, Very high quality, with the detail of the castle and the sourrounding field and trees. The hazy skk give the whole picture an even compisition. And I particularly like the montain, it sent the focus more on the castle, where the mountains are laiden back.

I have been to the Highlands of Scotland but have never seen this castle. I think it has an eerie but beautiful quality and makes you want to look at it again and again and pick out details you didn't see before. I'm not sure about the blue mountain though. Excellent picture nonetheless.

I LOVE your castles! Can I move into one? One of my stories takes place in Medieval England so I had to do a lot of castle research. Fun!

i think it's a great image--detail wise. may i suggest a little more grey on that blue mountain? i'm not an expert, but i would say that is all the image could use. i faved it along with your other castle.

Yeah, the blue mountain was an afterthought that didn't quite work but I liked the castle so much I went with it. I should composite in some better mountain stuff.
