Another terrific render. This reminds me a little of cells in a prison - either a strange, inside-out prison or maybe this is a prison world with access to the real, ordinary world at the centre of the structure. Prisoners free to roam as they will... but not in their own world, but an alien, empty plain.
Or a monastery/convent of some sort. Nuns and/or monks withdrawn to meditate on, literally, another plain...
