The title refers to the name of the bird species, and it doesn't hurt that it's all by its lonesome. I took this photo last October 2009 in the early morning light of a forest cut-over. This fellow was here to greet us each morning when we arrived for work. Though he'd fly off the moment you got too close for comfort and return when you moved off. He spent his time digging around the waterholes to build strength for the migration south. I cropped the shot down from a larger photo and messed around with the edges with an effect or two. Hope you enjoy it and your comments welcomed.

Hey Wendell
Well it looks like he has the place all to himself! These birds are always so nice to sit and watch! Very good shot!

I like the early morning light a lot.
I will never get shot like that because I go to bed about an hour before the sun is that high in the sky.

At least no annoying people wandering into shot here, Wendell - they'd probably get stuck in the mud ;~}
I love the warm lighting and the reflections - particularly of the sandpiper himself. The frame really sets things off well, too.

Wendell...You must have more patience than my wife. How do you get close enough to take photographs like this? And it looks like melting snow or ice behind the sandpiper. Certainly doesn't look like a warm, sunny day. I love the timing of the photo with the bird poking around for a meal and the resulting reflection. Just enough color and sunlight in the background to keep the composition extremely interesting.

Good one Wendell, she sure looks very shy. You have done well with the cropping. I wish you had got near him.

I love the flocks of Sandpipers that line our coastline, the way they run. You know, their "knees" are backwards from other kritters and birds and even people!! I love to watch them too.
Nice you found this little one alone, they always seem to travel in groups. Verena
