I briefly thought about calling this one 'Eat at Joe's'. Then I realized Joe's went out of business 2 years ago; bought out by some coffee conglomerate or other.

This mushroom, much as mushrooms are wont to do, sprang up overnight out in the backyard and by the time I go around to photographing it. It was already past its prime.

Pretty much presented as shot. Cloned out a few background distractions and the usual resizing for upload purposes.

Enjoy and your comments welcomed

Wendell...That certainly is a colorful fungus. I can only assume that this thing is an edible variety. Looks like mice have been chewing on it. There's a slight reflection on the cap. Did you resort to using a flash or is that the glow from your eyeballs? Just beautiful. I sure wish we had some of these guys around here. I like that the 'shroom is offset. It adds some extra dynamics to the image.

...but still a very beautiful mushi, Wendell! I love mushrooms, is sad that the beauty has a short time, most of them, but these ones that born on the rotten wood have long duration, I have here at bakyard (my photo "walking mushroom") that is still alive, I believe now 4 month alive and keep growing, I will post again in the future. Very well done photo!

Wow this is a beautiful looking photo of a fairytale mushroom.Plus it is very difficult to get a shot that is perfect of this type of mushroom. This is one great shot my friend.PS the reason you have great difficulty in get the perfect shot is because of the slugs and did you see the smile on it face.

That's about as pretty as fungi get Wendell. It looks like you used flash on this.
