A bit o' squirrel would be a fine Christmas meal. So, I laid out a meaty nut, with a hand crafted sign, tied to the pine branch to lure the little varmit. Got so tired with all this work, after all a cat needs its 23.75 hours of sleep each day, that I laid down for a wee nap and fell sound asleep. When I awoke...
"If people destroy something replaceable made by mankind, they are called vandals; if they destroy something irreplaceable made by God, they are called developers." Joseph Wood Krutch (1893-1970)
It was raining and pouring and the weather was miserable in Nova Scotia. A fine photographer couldn't get outside to take any of the pictures we had become accustomed to seeing. He started to go stir crazy and finally thought, "I'll start photographing some of my old Christmas paintings. Either that or I'll head into town and go to the hardware store and see what kind of rope they might suggest to hang myself to escape this terminal boredom". And they all lived happily ever after.

Squirrels morph into Santa's elves at Christmas time...but then they drink so much milk and eat so many cookies while working in Santa's toy shop that they sometimes need to go catch some zzzz's. Great invocation of this little known Christmas tall tale! :))
