A small spruce tree finding a convenient crevice in a rock face to grow. Also very conveniently growing at eye level so no strained neck or knee/back injuries were sustained by the photographer in the taking of the shot.

I have trouble growing stuff in dirt, let alone rock. That looks pretty cool growing there all by it's lonesome. Glad to hear you weren't hurt on this dangerous mission.

It is amazing that such trees can grow even from a small crack in a rocky surface. Perhaps the original lava plus water are enough for those plants to grow. Good find and capture Wendell.
