Vue 6. This took over 8 hours to render. Yes, over 8 hours. Basically, I loaded the water first. Then put in a dummy atmosphere, which end result that I'd change. Then I applied some altitude/mapping filters. Then I painted some effects, shaped the terrain, etc. Then I chose the final land texture. Then the final atmosphere. Then rendered.

I am probably going to come off sounding like a pompous butt here ... I hope not. Here goes.

First, the water and in particular where the water meets the land is one of the more realistic renders in that regard that I have seen. Great choices and well done on that aspect.

The pespective and depth that you created with the sky is excellent as well.

My only caveat is the colours seem to be in somewhat in conflict with one another.

I would anticipate seeing more blues, grays and whites in the sky than the colours you have presented here. It may just rest with me, but the sky suggests a more tropical environment that what the land and water convey to me.

I think ... think if the colouration of the sky and clouds were changed ... one, the drama of this image would be increased substantially and two, it would give your piece here a much greater sense of expansiveness. Hope that makes sense. 'Chilly' to me means desolate, wide open ... and as far as the eye can see.

Everything recedes so well into the background as is, and I humbly offer my observations to enhance those elements that little bit more.

I hesitate in saying these things, as I can't help but notice the amount of work you put into this image. It was not done in vain, rest assured.

Perhaps I need to expand my own definition of this art form. I know, on some levels it is a fantasy piece and not necessarily supposed to mimic real life completely. I can certainly respect you taking and applying your rightful artistic licence and then producing what your minds' eye has visualized.

No slights intended and none offered in my words here. Make no mistake about that. You always manage to draw me into your work ... and again, that is the highest compliment I can pay you. That truly is my message here.

You do great work. And for sharing your efforts with us ... I thank you for that.

I love the foreground in this; it has a very slick and icy look to it. The water is perfect, particularly to me--the river near my home turns bright green in winter (some sort of blue-green algae that thrives in low temperatures). Since we're supposed to offer criticism, I'll add that the clouds might be a little sharper; they look a bit hazy, which is more reminiscent of summer. But it's visually interesting and the textures in the rocks are very good.
