Worcester Cathedral again. I was facinated by this panel, insomuch as trying to imagine you're the artist commissioned to paint His likeness on glass. What references do you [literally] draw upon? Apart from that, the eyes are extrordinary. I wonder what captured their attention, what are they looking at? Something to ponder on a Sunday morning. This is the Christ Pantocrator.
Usually He's represented with a book on the right hand.
The purple robe is a sign of the love of Truth and the fact that in ancient times this color was reserved solely for kings and popes, also indicates that Christ is King, as well as of the Most High Priest who sacrificed himself on the altar of world for the salvation of all humanity, but also the Pontifex Maximus - a facilitator trait - between earth and heaven. Therefore, only in Him, and nowhere, the man discovers the path that leads to the Father, the Truth that makes free, life is resurrected from the dead as the Son of God.
The cup may represent the Holy Grail in an esoteric perspective.
