The bat lace is a rally nice touch. Not sure but is there a meaning behind each shoe having seven visible skulls (there may be another set of four on the non-showing side of the shoelace up)?

John: That's exactly what it is...There's a set of four skulls on the opposite end of the boot, and those are straps that go across, but I didn't really emphasize on the buckle system that would be underneath each skull - After all, it's only art...The ones up the heels are strictly for appearance...
