Yesterday we packed a picnic and set out to visit seven of our beautiful lakes in one day. My husband/driver/lens-cap holder took along a book to read during our frequent stops and I took a couple of cameras so we were both happy! . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . The first one,Lake Pukaki is the largest of three alpine lakes in the Mackenzie Basin, South Island,New Zealand. Their glacial feed gives them the beautiful blue colour created by finely ground rock particles (known as glacial flour) The overflow of this lake is dammed as it is part of the Waitaki hydroelectric scheme. . . . . I really like the composition. The transition from the beach to snow capped mountains, the calm water, and that fantastic sky all make this creation special.

I like the layers of the composition too. And the wide format helps give a sense of the size of the lake. Good work Lyn.

Lyn - The glacial rock moraine in the foreground and the snow-capped peaks in the background frame a beautiful composition. The water has the mid-day glisten, also seen in the clouds. Wonderful work! Thad

A gorgeous view of this lake. The composition does a superb job of drawing the viewer into the picture, and the light and colors are spectacular. Great shot!
