This is the Quabbin Reservoir in Mass on a windy March day. I was out walking and went along to shoreline as much as I could and the water had some very pretty colors in it. So I try to capture them in this photo. I love the gold water in the front with the sun reflecting on the sand under the water.

Mooly,

I like the colors, the general concept and composition, but the picture is tilted quite a bit to the left, which is distracting. Straighten it out and perhaps tweak the contrast just a hair and a good post will become an excellent post!

G'day Molly,
I'm a water lover myself, so I understand how tough a subject it is to capture with the camera what you see with your eyes. You've done pretty good, aside from the obvious tilt, which is easy fixed. :) The colours in the water are sweet and the image is sharp. Balance would be good once the tilt is gone. I'd be happy with just water, nothing else, but most folks like to put in some "context" like you did. Lol.

Very nice upload Molly. You did a good job capturing the waves in the water without any motion blur. I have to agree with Rich though. I'm guessing you took that picture with the Tri-pod you bought which is good. Since you have a Nikon camera you should have an option in one of the menus To turn on/off the Grid Display. turning that on will show the "Rule of Thirds" Grid in your view finder. That should help you line up the background to make sure the image is straight. If you don't when I get home I'll send you a link for a free image editor from Google. Its like Piccaso or something like that. Hope this helps.
