I've been away for a little while, I needed to get some perspective on what I thought was a good photo. I took this in my backyard while the sun was setting. Here goes nothing, tell me what you think. :) Molly

This is a very nice Close-up Molly. I like where you placed the flower. Great focus on the flower and the colors are vibrant. I like how the background looks and how it adds to the photo. All around you did a great job and its nice seeing you again Molly.

G'day Molly,
Welcome back, I understand the need to get a clear feel for your own sense of aesthetic, especially with so many opinions being offered here. It is a balancing act, holding your own sense of things AND being open to learning where our own sense needs development. This shot is simple and great, the comp is spot on, it's sharp, the background is well blurred and the light is delicious.

Personally I like your DOF and think the background is a good complement to the main flower. The colours here are lovely, nice work:)

I like this closeup and the contrast with the background. It's dramatic.

The colors of the flower are stunning, if people rally take the time to look at it, especially on full screen. I think I agree that I may have gotten just a little closer to limit the backdrop but all in all well done.

Don't let the c-index fool you. There are tons of flowers here, and it can be tough to get one to score really well. Plus, as I mentioned, a lot of people don't really take the time to study a post before casting their ballot.
