This panorama of Lake Conniston was taken last December, and stitched with autostitch. There was a rally going on that day so I had to get busy with the Gimp.
A melodrama ........great image....i am unfamiliar with the HOW ....several images are "stitched" to gether??? would like to know more....great job here!
For Philippe (and anyone else who is interested) this image was put together from a number of different shots using a free (for non-commercial use) utility called Autostitch. The software is available here, http://www.cs.ubc.ca/~mbrown/autostitch/autostitch.html
The ability of this software to put panoramas together with no user input at all is simply incredible. It can even handle some discrepancies in input images and still produce a flawless panorama.
I believe that the technology has been licenced and turned into a commercial product called AutoPano Pro. This has a full gui front-end, HDR capability and a rather neat trick of being able to identify all the panoramas in a directory full of photos.
Prior to discovering autostitch I'd tried hand-stitching and some other utilities, but this thing is unreal in its capabilities. I highly recommend trying it out.
Lovely stitching! Love the soft and delicate ripples on the water. The colour of them whole picture is lovely and soft and peaceful.you've don a great job here. well done
Your composition and eye for balance is just great in this image. I did think it was a bit too dark and I thought the bird in the forground could be cloned out without harming this nice piece of work.
Hmm, I think you're right, I just had a quick go at a version with the bird cloned out and it seemed to have better balance and symmetry. I might rework it sometime.
I would definately NOT touch the bird, it is a great contrast to the wast landscape, and it leads the thought, catches the mind, so to speak.
I can see that a photographer like rolomascara would take the bird away, but don't so it.
The bird is at least 50% of the magnetism of this panorama, the sole storyteller of the whole photo, and he is saying "Just look at that! An amazing view!"
Change only the contrast, if anything. 9 pts. Don't touch the bird. =o)
