So this duck, as simple as it could be, fascinated me greatly. I know there are several different types of ducks. But I knew for a fact this was a Mallard...but my question was, why was his head constantly appearing this amazing beautiful blue, instead of the typical Green mallard color. So I looked into it myself and couldn't find any actual information on this but somebody's theory.As you know the typical green head Mallard can change color as it moves into different light/angles, but no matter what angle these fellas were at it was always blue. So as the male’s testosterone level begins to increase in the spring, the blue shows through as the eumelanin(brownish pigment) decreases. After the amount of yellowish pheomelanin gets high enough, the head feathers appear green since blue and yellow make green.

I had no clue they changed colors....very interesting . I like the natural look to the shot he is beautiful . Nice camera work .
