I don't really know if this is a "Wild Rose" or not but I had to call the photo something. :) Pentax K20D, DA*16-50. 36mm, 1/90, F8, ISO 100. I was delighted with how sharp and smooth this came out. I made two images from the raw file, one for the shaded part of the flower (In which the sunlit petals were washed out.) and the rest of the image and one for the petals in direct sunlight so that they had plenty of colour in them then blended the sunlight colour rich petals into the rest of the image. The Gimp is my best friend. :)

Awesome backlighting...it really makes the colors of the flower pop out at you! All in all I like the contrast between shadow and light and the background is blurred just enough for me...nice one!

You named it quite correctly, Mikel. It's a rugosa rose, native to Asia but long elsewhere on the planet. It specializes in busting out of gardens and setting up shop at the beach and other sandy places, even chilly, windy ones like along the shores of Nova Scotia's Cape Breton. They make pretty, plump red rose hips when their blooms are done, too.
