Now the title is a bit misleading. I did indeed photograph this bamboo in the city of Chengdu. But the bamboo may not actually be local bamboo. At Wangjiang Tower Park is a Tang Dynasty tower built in honour of a Poetess Xue Tao. Bamboo was her favourite plant so the Park surrounding the tower, which is one of national significance in China, is crammed full of two hundred varieties of bamboo from all over the world, brought there by Chinese people who wanted to add honour to the memory of the Poetess.
I am a total bamboo fan, which is a bit tough as it's illegal in my country because it takes over so easily. So I was totally pumped when Yongling, my friend, told me that this park would have lots of bamboo. Have to tell you, the Chinese really, REALLY know how to design gardens, on any scale you care to suggest. I am not a big garden nut but the Chinese ones totally captured me.
Enjoy.
