One of only three skyscraper state houses in the U.S., the North Dakota capitol building is of Art Deco design, popular in the early 1930's when it was built. Each Christmas since the 1950's, certain windows on the north and south sides of the state capitol tower are lit red or green, forming the shape of a pine tree, and topped by a large electric light star installed on the roof. Originally the window coverings were simply colored paper, lit from behind by floodlights, but they've been upgraded over the years to film and finally LED lights. The late December night I went out to shoot this scene, a light fog came through before I could get set up but I decided to shoot anyway, the fog softening the character and feel of the view. Looking down to the steps at the left of the tower's base, you can see the state Christmas tree, lit up in the Great Hall between the legislative wing and the tower. Considering the current state of the world and our nation (and our political dilemma), I think we could all use a little softness. 5.19-7

---but they've been upgraded over the years to film and finally LED lights---

'Nik', because the North Dakota State Capital, situated in the city of Bismarck, is the tallest building in North Dakota, it's an apt choice to use sophisticated illumination means to achieve a Christmas mood.
Although it's a fine capture, hope however that my Christmassy feelings will be delayed for a while, ☺ .

I guess I've always felt that photography knows no season... the exhibition that is, not the captures.

In spite of the mist you have captured the scene well. The mist gives the scene somehow the impression of silence. Good one Nik.

I like the foggy winter glow of the light of Bismark in the background.

Very clever and cool the way the building created this with their office window lighting. Love it
