As the sun dropped toward the horizon, and we retraced our steps back out from the Black Hills Cathedral Spires, I turned for one last look. On the way in, two hours earlier, this is the spot where one first sees the spires from the trail, those sun-kissed towers on the far left, between the pines. Near sunset, growing shadows in the trees and rocks are a strong contrast with the highlights in the tall spires, and is, for us, the best view to finish our hike. What I love most about the Black Hills is that everywhere you go here, the strong fresh scent of pines is accented by the sight of outcroppings of granite, some small enough to fill a backyard, others like miniature mountains, but they are everywhere. Here we are always on a mountain, slowly emerging from the forest and the land, but unlike the mountains I love in Glacier National Park, here they are almost close enough to touch. I am glad I could share it with you.

---I am glad I could share it with you---

'Nik', many thanks for sharing with us this magnificent series.
The photographs are wonderful, but photographs only can't make it to a great series. The well documented narratives are an integral part of it. In that matter, you've spoiled us.
Thanks again. Very well done, 👍 !

It is a very majestic place. Thanks for sharing your journey, Nik! Where I am about all you see is pine trees except for the farm lands.
