This is my best shot (so far ! ) of the Earlestown viaduct. It is a world first. This was the first viaduct in the world, built by the engineer, Stephenson. It carried the first passenger railway. It was over this viaduct that Stephenson carried out trials for his locomotive, ' Rocket ' To this day the viaduct still carries the main Liverpool to Manchester line.

This is wonderful Stan and the description is outstanding. The clarity and the angle are just terrific as is the lush greenery all around. What a great post, thanks for sharing it.

Very Good Corpral. Looks like there is some life in that ol' camera after all. Perhaps it was the plonker holding it . LOL> ron

I like the angle from which you shot this. The capture of the stonework and it's colors is well done.

Don't believe anything you read on the net. Except this. Well, including this, I suppose. (Douglas Adams)

Hello Stan ....What a nice picture of this old viaduct....The angle of the shot is just right to show the fantastic fete of engineering that went into building this structure...Another rewarding project could be to return to the viaduct at different times of day, or throughout the year. This is a great way to learn about the effects of winter sunlight, and autumn mists...I agree with Bob, a sunrise/sunset would make viewers cackle....By the way if you are going to give this a try don't forget your (TOT) ...All the best...Mick.

Super shot Stan. I like the old viaduct photos, and thanks to your narrative I learned alittle history too - thanks! This was taken at an excellent angle, seems to show the viaduct at its most impressive view. Interesting architecture of the arches - nicely shown stonework. Good earthy colours too. Thanks for increasing my knowledge :*>
