I was getting out of my car one evening when I noticed this one blossom on a newly planted rose bush. There was no other blooms on the bush, but this one was wanting to make up for the rest.

Whoa, looks like velvet to touch, gorgeous colours and clarity, really like the way it really shows up against the darker background, great angle - perfectly captured

The picture was taken in the early evening. There was plenty of light, but I turned on the flash to make a greater contrast between the blossom and the background. This was taken with Samsung Galaxy cell phone camera. It tends to blow out the reds, so I used Picasa's HDR filter, set at about 3/4 fade, bring the texture in the reds out. I also increased the shadows (dark shades a bit) to both fade the background more and to get the petals to stand out a bit more.
