These Roman Remains are not exactly what they seem. They are to be found at Virginia Water Lake, a man made drainage lake for the Windsor Estate, part of the Crown Estate. (Of Windsor Castle fame.) Although they are authentic Roman relics, they never originated here. They were brought to England In 1816 from Leptis Magnor near Tripoli in Libya. They were stored in the British Museum until 1826 when they were moved to this site and arranged as they are seen today.

What a strange bit of history and lore. I wonder why in the world they were brought to England in the first place..maybe so all could remember the days when the island played host to the Romans? Hmmmm

It's a nice peaceful image. I kinda like it. Good image for a desktop. The sky's a bit burned in some parts.

This is a great shot! Ancient ruins aways make a good subject where ever they are. Very interesting piece of history also!
