With a donation from Ellen Browning Scripps, a crescent-shaped concrete breakwater was built, forming La Jolla's Children's Pool in San Diego, CA. It was designed as safe place for familes to enjoy the beach. For unknown reasons, seals began gathering there during the early 1990s. Their numbers grew to the point that health officials denied human access and posted contamination-warning signs. Children's Pool has been the focus of a long-running dispute ever since between fans of the seals and those who think humans should have first use of the beach.

Nice view of this breakwater Christine.. As kids we used to go out on it in storms and get soaked by crashing waves.. sorry to see seals have taken over.. Oh well, there's always the shores or the cove for humans to sunbathe...lol.Great color and perspective. Well done...=D

Live simply. Speak kindly. Care deeply. Love generously. also, let's not forget- What lies behind us and what lies ahead of us are tiny matters as compared to what lies within us...=D

Lovely shot with nice colors and composition! It's a bit funny to see all those sea-lions lying there on the beach. Well maybe the kids can't enjoy the water, but they can come and look at those sea-lions!

Wow, it's marvellous. Great wide space, nice turkish foaming waters and nice rock formation, I like the sleeping sea lions as well. I think you did it perfectly and the subject is perfect, too. Many thnx for sharing.

Wow, that's a lot of sunning seals! Always fun to see marine wildlife upclose. This one is only about 100 yds north of yours (toward The Cove), sometimes you can see a seal or two out in the water here ... probably on their way here!?

A blatant proof that animals can think and be smart : this is the perfect place to doze off in the sun and have a bath at the same time !

I agree! The seals picked a nice place to call 'home!'

Sometimes, it seems appropriate for Nature to reclaim a little from men. Nice capture.
