This is the front door and yard of the Notre Dame de Paris in a rather cool late afternoon. Among the statues of the saints in the palisade there is one holding his head in his hands (Yes, his own head!); I will post this detail as my next upload. Does anyone have any information on this, and on the other saints in that row? Who was he? Was he beheaded? Why is he holding his own head in his hands? A lot of other religious leaders in the old days were martyred (many of them beheaded-including St. Valentine after whom we have the Valentine Day). Why is it that only this one is presented (headless) in this row of statues? I would appreciate any comments re these questions from anyone who has the info! Rokh

Excellent perspective and lighting. I like the dramatic contrast between the church and the sky. It looks almost like it was wrought out of gold.

Great post, it's a wonderful building and the light in this brings it to life.

The light on the front & the deep tones of the sky on the back really throw the architecture into relief & make the church seem like some dignified older woman.... her beauty's fading but it still shows in her fine bones & erect carriage. She's proud & elegant & though she has long memories, both good & bad, she's risen above them all.
