According to a treaty of sort, dating back to medieval times, the protection of the Holy See is delegated to the Swiss Army. Even today, the first condition of admittance to the Vatican Guard is Swiss citizenship (if you don't believe me, go on to the Vatican web site and check it out for yourself!). The attire (uniform) is still the same as those old days! Very colorful and interesting. Shot at Vatican city, summer of 2005.

I know this is immature but may i just say.....hehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehe. Sorry but i do think they look rather funny! Great shot of them though and thanks for the history lesson. I didnt know about the swiss army. Kinda wish all my clothes were that colourful :)

This is what I love about caedes, that we learn so much about our world without having to travel, and still get to see the best parts through the eyes and lens of others on here. This is a great shot of these guards and they are truly colourful indeed! I wouldnt want the job of caring for their uniforms though, as they look quite complicated to tackle with an iron!

Really great shot of the Swiss Guards. The colours are amazing and yes I've been there and did know the history. The tour of the Vatican Museums & Sistine Chapel Tour are really out of this world.
