Champagne Pool near Rotorua, New Zealand. I took many photos of this lake but this was the only one that showed the ripples as the appear here (many times the water was partially obscured by steam). The pool takes it name from the many bubbles that constantly rise to the surface.

Wow, that is so cool!!! I love the array of colors in this pool.

Is this from a natural spring? Or what is the source of the pool?

Fascinating for sure Samm-o.

Many thanks for sharing this with me.

It is a hot spring caused by the subterranean activity that is common throughout the area. If memory serves this particular pool was formed inside an extinct volcano or it might have been a fault line... it is quite deep and very steeply inclined at the sides (picture a tall, upside down triangle). The colors I believe are a result of mineral deposits.

Great colours in the water. The ripples create a nice textured pattern on the surface of the water.
