I'm staying at a friend of my parents house in Florida. She loves to feed the wildlife and this guy is one of the regulars. Sorry Terri (Madmaven), I told her it was bad to feed the wildlife, but she's 90 years old and not about to change her ways.

So that is why you managed to get so close... I suppose you have to reward your friend for this great opportunity. Nice portrait, I wish you tried to capture more light on the birds beak though (different angle). Did you captured some other birds?

If you admire nature for its creations why don't you visit the gallery of its reporter...

I thought I had left a comment on this but I see I did not. I certainly didn't forget to save it however. This is really good, Chip. Love that non intruding background. The Ibis shows up really well. Lots of fine detail in it. Love the bird's eye. The entire composition is well done.

One aspect of the photos on this site that has never jumped out at me is the geometry of a photo, but this one is very geometrically pleasing because of the perfect curve of the beak. The neck and every other characteristic are also very flowy and make for a photo with a "soft" touch. Nice work!

Just saw this as the "perm" slot in the Featured Images on the home page (congrats). These are very cool birds.. once Posted a shot of a red ibis that was nowhere as clear or well composed as this. nice shot!

Please, even if you don't visit my gallery, check out my "Faves".I've left them intact since day "1", and would like it if every image there got the attention they deserved.

Wow, what a beautiful shot. I LOVE the contrast between the sharp foreground and blurred background. Can't get over it!
