Find the hidden Caedes spider! See my comment below for detailed information to help you find it. Cross-program project made using PSP8 and a Stereogram creation software made by Andrej Olejnik.

This is what is often referred to as a Magic-Eye image (actually a Single Image Random Dot Stereogram). Hidden in the middle of the screen is a large 3D picture of the Caedes spider. Everyone has their own way of looking at these things but I've included the small Caedes spiders as a tool to help you find the hidden one so here's the method I suggest:

When viewing the full screen image, stare directly between two of the small Caedes spiders (at the top or bottom of the screen) and cross your eyes slightly until you see a third small spider between them. Focus intently on the third spider until you can see it very clearly, then redirect your gaze to the center of the screen and the large hidden spider should rise up at you.

Note: If you find the hidden spider easily and want another challenge, there is also some hidden text on both sides of the screen (however even I can't read that and I know what it says -- because it is very hard to focus this way when looking at the edge of the screen), but maybe someone out there can read it. Good luck!

Also, if anyone wants more information on how to get or use the stereogram creation software let me know. I've been having a lot of fun with it~

Very interesting. I can find the caedes logo quite easily but can't get to the edge to read anything placed there. I don't know who'se sicker, the one who creates these or the one who spends hours staring at them. Or maybe this is me justifying my lunacy. Meanwhile, well done.

Thanks for the comments guys! Like I said, even I can't read the writing; I think it would take a real master of these things so don't beat yourselves up over it :). I'm glad you've all been able to see the spider. This was definitely fun to make.

Excellent picture... I got the Spider pretty easy......abt the text, i dont know i see the word "just" & i see a lot of characters 'g' & 'd' going all the way from left to right....I dont know if what i 'm seeing is right....How do you create it BTW....just curious.

Thanks Joost, mum and tiger. It sounds like the text you're spotting is just coincidental pattern in the color mask, and not actually 3d text because the text that I placed deliberately is concentrated on the left and right edges of the screen (and it isn't the word "just"). The actual hidden text is oriented vertically, in other words, to read it normally you would turn your head sideways but that won't work in this case because the 3d image will not appear unless your head is upright and your eyes are horizontal.

As to how I made it, the program that I mentioned in the description is about 5 years old but available for free download on the program author's website. To use it you must have the image you want to be the hidden image, as well as the image to mask it with. I created the caedes logo in PSP8 and used a gradient backround to improve the quality of the 3d separation (this took a lot of experimenting with trial and error). I also created the blue texture in PSP8, however when the program creates the 3d image it rearranges the (in this case blue) mask image a lot so it really needs to be more of a texture than any kind of real picture (the program also offers several pre-made texture masks or it can generate the 3d image in a display of random colored or B&W dots, but I was intent on making everything for this image myself). After the program created the finished 3d image, I took it back to PSP8, increased it to 1600x1200 (since the program cannot make it that large, but it didn't seem to hurt its quality to blow it up) added the colorful framing, the lighting effects, and the small spider-aids. This is the finished product :)

Hmm... I've always been able to do these, but I can't for the life of me find that spider (perhaps it's my monitor). However, trusting that these other folks really did see it (hehe), and for your fantastic originality, it's still getting the high marks from me. Nice one, Josh!

I'm moving this older image of mine into the current contest gallery since I guess it fits in pretty well. Is that OK? Don't know if old images are eligible or not, but I will gladly move this back where it came from if it doesn't belong here :)

Ahh, I give up! I'm sure I looked at this picture for at least five minutes! Well, I could tell that there were words there, but I couldn't make them out before my eyes untwisted...

Good job on the spider though!

Very nice image. I had always liked these things, yet they have rarely worked for me. Just the idea is amazing, even if i can't find it. Unfortunately I can't find this either...

When I focus the spider, and then look down, I lose focus. I am not sure how far to cross them afterwards, not that I could see anyways (don't ask me why, but this image brings tears to my eyes...no, seriously). Any more advice?

The prospect of making these things sounds fun, is the program difficult? I am still recovering from the idea thta i might possibly be able to figure out blender...

Kudos for the idea, and the final production. I give it a 9 (assuming the spider is there).

Nice colours. Wish I could see it. I've never been able to see these. I've been told I should be able to, but it will be more difficult than for most. More difficult seems to be impossible!

(More difficult because my eyes do not work together and my brain does not combine the images from the eyes correctly.)
