This is Rainbow Falls Near Manitou Springs, Colorado. This was one of the most visited places in Colorado in the late 1800's. It is located next to Ute Pass. Which the Ute Native Americans used to use. And Now it has been overrun by graffiti and a highway. No one really knows about it, except some drugies and teenagers. Btw that woman was most likely high or on some type of drug...In fact she didnt even know that I was there...Anyway thanks for looking :)

This is heartbreaking....such beauty.....such disrespect.

Great work though - the light on the falls and the darkness under the bridge draws your eyes first to the beautiful falls - then the rest of it sinks in....

Great juxtaposition. Great idea. The smoothness of the water really adds to the jarring starkness of (and invasion by) the graffiti. I guess even the beauty of nature so close by doesn't stand a chance against a cheap high.

It's very striking, but I think the waterfall remains the focus even when all that paint and the bridge is around. This is an excellent shot.

I say we round up these punks and spraypaint crap all over "their" bodies. Things like "shrub was here" or "rock loves waterfall 4-ev'a".

Yes. But is it the real topic of the contest? The nature doesn't reclaim anything here.Maybe I'm wrong...
Although, it's a excellent and original picture.

I would agree ppigeon, I didn't put it in the contest but I guess an admin thought it should have been....But yet again Nature is in the process of reclaiming- the waterfall is washing away graffiti on and near the falls. I don't know - thanks for the comment anyway :)

One needn't get too didactic. This pic is exactly what the contest is about, depending on your point of view.

this is perhaps the most symbolic image i've yet seen on caedes.net, more than making up for the fact that it's not something i would ever put on a desktop.

however, that woman there is actually my mom, and she's a geologist, and i don't appreciate you casting aspersions on her

hahaha j/k.

I think the contrast in this photograph makes it more beautiful, not ugly. I don't see it as man destroying nature, but as the two coexisting. I mean, for the most part, the grafiti is on a man-made bridge... the rocks are still strong and the water's flow is not interrupted. I think this juxtaposition of man and nature is captured very well, good job.

Someday, nature will take back this spot. Until then, it's wonderful that you have helped preserve it with your beautiful photo.

Great picture and great dialog. I love the rock person just above and to the left of the waterfall. He/she is keeping watch I am sure of all the going ons of mere humans and awaiting the time to laugh at our folly.

This is an interesting shot. When I saw the thumbnail of the image I just had to take a closer look because I thought for sure it was a combination of two images. Great job.

That's an incredible shot! What a neat place.
I think I would contact the state, and show them this beautifut site that's been so abused, and ask them to paint over the graffiti. If not....I'd buy a few cans of spray paint and do it myself. Maby the cops should put this site on their nightly "check list". That would clean it up a bit.

Cool Shot.

great picture, the contrast cuts so very deep on so many levels. I wish I were closer, so I could use a water power washer to clean that up. it is so sad how some have total disrespect for the beauty of nature.
