..from my zoo at home.. one of my (allmost) fullgrown female Giant Prickly Stick Insects (Extatosoma tiaratum)In a few weeks she will start producing eggs and after laying between 100 and 200, she will eventually die. Kept correct these eggs will start hacthing in about 6 months (depending on temperature and airhumidity) and after 8 - 10 more months, this new generation will complete the circle by laying new eggs. They will all be female, since the only way to get males is to have the eggs fertilized and I dont have any males.. (Thats on purpose. since the males just looks like boring old sticks!) Normally they will hang up side down from branches, impersonating leafs that are slightly moving in the wind. They live on a diet of leafs and water. Originally from Australia.

What an interesting bug. I've seen the male stick bugs a plenty, but I've never seen anything like this shot of the female. Although I find bugs fascinating to shoot, I don't like to touch. (shivers)

I do mostly in nature shots, but like "experimental" manipulation as well. Drop by some time.
