I stopped by one of the ponds on my way to work and caught this heron fishing for breakfast just after the sun came up. Canon 40D @ ISO 400 f8 1/1500 manual, 70-200 @ 200 + 2x Honest comments welcome.

We have lots of herons here in our neck of the woods. I wish I could get one captured as well as you have done. Nice work!

Great shot! I was looking at these the other day at a pond by my house is cool how long they stay still for. They are very nice. And this shot really captured there beauty and the reflection in the water is outstanding. Great Job.

A magnificent view with super clarity, lighting and a fabulous pose. The water reflection of the Heron is like having a mirror - I like the ripples in the deep green water. This should rate high in the VB. Alan, you have a great gallery too!

I need to catch up on things so can't comment too much. But I love all of your fine images :)

I have been told in the past that the 2x converter tended to make one's pics blurry...not the case here in the least, and thanks for including your camera stats.

We don’t make art to show someone what something looks like. All this requires is eyes (or a lens). Art is supposed to have meaning, emotion, power, or magic. Alan & Mario "FourThirds"

Well the 2X is more blurry than I would like, but it doesn't show up at these resolutions. I try to use a 1.4x if possible. The 70-200 is the longest that I have (so far). It just means that everything else has to be perfect, tripod, best f-stop, exposure, speed, ISO, etc. It's best to also use something like DxO Optics to correct for the chromatic aberation, too. I've found that PS3 can correct CA for a lot of shots, but Dxo does a better job on others. Thanks for stopping in and commenting, PJ.
