This was early morning and I managed to get close enough to use my 1.4x on the 70-200 and was just close enough to fill the frame -- when it took off, leaving that nice trail of water drops. I used manual exposure to not blow out the highlights on the white feathers and a fast shutter to freeze the wings. Canon 40D, ISO 400, f5.6, 1/2000th.

Egrets are so graceful while in flight, but very quick also. I'm enjoying the lighing through the wings & droplets of water flying of it's feet. Excellent action shot. Faves!

Fantastic photograph! I can see this as a wonderful oil painting. It's perfect. The lights are so right, especially the back lighting of the Egret's wing. Excellent photography. Thanks for the stats.

Agree with above. The lighting is great, and so is the capture.

What a fantastic shot... the water drops make me think of fairy lights trailing behind the egret more than anything else. ;o)

I just had to save this one out. You've made it look like an expensive oil painting...just gorgeous and I'm glad to see it got a good score too!

We don’t make art to show someone what something looks like. All this requires is eyes (or a lens). Art is supposed to have meaning, emotion, power, or magic. Alan & Mario "FourThirds"

There's so much to describe in this. The gold of the water vs the coolness of the feathers; the slight diagonals in the lines of the ripples vs the angles of the bird's body; the translucence of the wings and the shadows they reveal; and the incredible curve of the water droplets trailing from its feet. It's a masterful shot Alan.

Beautiful shot. I have a 40D but cannot seem to get the hang of it yet. I do not have a Math brain and my eyes really need to look hard at those tiny symbols.
