This is a picture take from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C.. The National Mall with Reflecting Pool, Washingtion Monument, Capitol, and some of the WWII Memorial are visible. It was taken kind of quickly with little time for planning so it does have a lot of problems.

You have a good idea, but it suffers from several obvious flaws. Eliminate the trash can in the foreground. The monuments are blurry and this is a picture killer. Try shooting from a lower angle and if your camera has it use the automatic bracketing mode, spot or center-weighted metering, reduced EV value and if needed use aperture priority mode (as reduced apperture increases DOF). Any one or all of these adjustments may be needed. Remember to use the lowest ISO setting possible. Shooting from a tripod and using the self timer also help in steadying the camera. This is NOT an attack on you or your image but just some thoughts :) (If you are using one, be sure to properly adjust the polarizing filter)

Hi, Matt .. Firstly, let me say .. thank you for sharing your images with us

Secondly ... I, also, agree with katman .. of the shots in your gallery this one looks like a tourist shot the most .. it looks as though you stopped mid stride and raised your camera .. and that's fine, if that's what you wanted

try to approach photography from a:
1) .. what is important to this image
2) .. what do I want my audience to see
3) .. how can I best capture 1+2

sometimes you have to take what you can get, you're only going to be there for 5 minutes and it's 12-noon .. but other times you can make plans to be there at a better time
