I was only able to catch the trailing end of the eclipse (had to shoot at a sporting event), so I took this from the parking lot with the setup I was using to shoot indoor sports (1D MkII and a 300 f/2.8 IS). If I only I had finished sooner, and brought the 400 f/2.8 + 1.4x teleconverter. October 27, 2004

Nice ... But the moon is out there everynight (almost) and you're lamenting missing it while it was covered up. :)

I used to do what I refered to as a Moon-Shot project where I would shoot a whole roll of film with just the moon (taking notes on where I placed it for each frame) using a cheap 300mm (f5.6 I think) zoom with a 2x TC and then roll the film back and re-insert it for double exposing the daytime/nitetime foreground scene (using my notes for vertical/horizontal left/right etc) due to my cheap lense and resulting shutter speed the moon could have been crisper for my tastes. (the moon moves mighty fast across the sky at that magnification)
I for one would like to see any moon you'd care to submit .. eclipse or no.

The moon, stars, and planets always hold my fascination. Nice, clear shot.

This is just wonderful, imagine what you could have done with the lens you preferred.

I love it. I hope the pictures I took of the eclipse turn out that well. The last pictures I tried to take of the moon didn't turn out so well. I, too, have always been fascinated with astronomy etc. I love pictures of the moon, stars and space.

An instant classic. The detail and definition look nothing like the thick clouds I had overhead last night. It's a ten.

I'm not myself today... maybe I'm you.

Great job BR! You got the exposure right on, hard to do with such brightness and contrast. I shot a bunch through thin clouds, but got nothing nearly this clear and crisp. That Canon 300mm looks incredibly sharp.
