Portulaca is not only beautiful, but also quite tasty. I like mine stir fried with a morsels of fish. It's light lemony flavor goes with a number of dishes.

The portulaca plant is not a member of the rose family, but is a succulent. A little butter, some portulaca and broccoli and a dash of dill stir fried with some fish, shrimp, frog or rattlesnake, is a true gastronomical delight. They are a little like eating a mushroom with a light lemon flavor.

Enjoy.

It is a lovely flower Don - just wait a day or two before you fry it. :)
P.S. The colours and clarity are great.

I never knew this was edible - I presume it is the leaves that are?

Lovely shot - a delicious tangy lemon image :)

Brilliant, well taken image of a flower that I like very much. Great dof too, Don. Do you think their flavor would clash with that of nasturtiums? lol

That's great, many flowers are edible but we Americans are culturally biased into ignorance or thinking it "would be gross". Good capture!

It's funny, I'm so completely not a yellow person, except when it comes to flowers, then I find I quite love it and this is a beautiful example. I'm also dying to taste it with fish:)

I don't know how I missed this photo of yours...it's so lovely. My Dad used to love growing Moss Roses, he's from Oklahoma. And this little yellow one of yours is just lovely. Will keep it in my file...to look at often on my desktop. Thanx Don..verena

He who would have nothing to do with thorns must never attempt to gather flowers...
