American Indians along the east coast of America often chose a animal and his headdress reflected this animal. This native American descendant chose the red-headed woodpecker as the symbol of his spirit.

“I am Wampanoag, and my People have lived here on our homeland for over twelve thousand years.”

Very nice people shot. I love the expression on his face. It truly conveys a feeling and his headdress is perfectly suited to his name.

We don’t make art to show someone what something looks like. All this requires is eyes (or a lens). Art is supposed to have meaning, emotion, power, or magic. Alan & Mario "FourThirds"

Very interesting. The expression on the man's face is one of slight annoyance. I like also "woody's hat". Good capture, Don.

Thanks for showing a Dying Culture as it really is.
I agree with Raj, he does look a little annoyed. But then all Wood Peckers do.

Great shot Don. It is so important to know all we can about the Native American Culture and not let it die.

Good color and contrast in this shot, Don. I'd love to know where you took this shot. Wampanoags live around my location. In fact, King Philip's Trail is just down the road from me.

interesting shot don, i am trying to work out the emotion on his face, but im not sure. would he dress like this all the time? or is this just for the benefit of the tourists? (excuse me for being pretty dumb, but we dont have american indians here obviously) :-)

The poor fellow seems to have come in for some flak !! it seems you caught him in a reflective mood, those eyes tell a story.
