We went mountain biking up a mountain pass last Saturday and discovered this beautiful Protea bush clinging to the side of a cliff. The Protea is South Africa's national Flower:-)

Hi Deb..what a great capture this is. I have never heard of this type of flower before. I love the soft, muted color that you shot (is that the only color they bloom?)...The composition is great and I have downloaded this into my favorites folder on my hard drive...thanks for posting it and for the information about it!
Oh and thanks also for the recent visit to my gallery and the warm comments you left on ~beautiful butterfly~ & ~cardinal country~. I am fortunate to have a butterfly conservatory near me where I can go and bask in their beauty. My backyard is the Cardinal refuge it seems. I have up to 25 of them at one time. They are great backyard birds and they love the bird feeder and they let me know when it is empty :). I am glad that you enjoyed them also. Drop by anytime. The door is always open and coffee is on! Your support, comments & critiques are always welcome and deeply appreciated :))

This picture pays tribute to the Protea. Trying to buy a Protea in Germany can turn out to be extremely expensive, so thank you for sharing the photo. T
