Doubill Burrill Station is on the reopened Queenstown to Strahan railway line in South West Tasmania. The line was built originally to cart ore fron Queenstown to Strahan and was closed in 1962. It was reopened in 2002 as a tourist venture costing in excess of $4,000,000. The original engines have been overhauled and now transport tourists instead of copper ore. Steam engines use a rack and pinion system to climb the 1 in 20 section of the line. The engine has a cog which engages with a toothed third rail and hauls itself up and over the mountain. At Dubbill Burril Station, a diesel takes over for the flat run into Strahan. The station gets its name from a semi literate railway worker who wrote to a rifle manufacturer in Melbourne ordering a dubbill burrill shotgun, which duly arrived.
