What a most fascinating subject. A cage, with the perpetuation of itself captured in readiness for release. One passes on, yet in that process it prepares the release of multiples of what it once was. Very very good choice, and it shows your artistic eye quite well, plus your capability of capturing, not just an image but also of telling a story. Well done.
If I may make just one critique. I think this would have looked far better had it been taken from closer, and with a tighter depth of field so as to blur into un-recognition everything behind the plant. The subject will then jump into strong definition, grasping fully the attention of the viewer. The background is just as important as the foreground in a photo, especially in a single-subject frame such as this, and in this case I find that the background not only detracts from the overall image but also distracts the attention from the subject itself.
I think that's the dreaded Silver River Thistle Trap. LOL. I have heard they can get pretty mean in the fall. They grab at anything that comes by....or maybe you know that already. He he. Excellent shot of this, Oliver. AND, I might add...very interesting.
