This is one of my favorite photos. These kids were having their birds judged at the county fair. The little girl at this end is trying to remain calm as the judge's face shows he's in the process of making some sort of comment or developing a question. I really feel for her as he cogitates. Meanwhile, all the other kids are also intense. All the players in this photo are very present in the current moment. It's not a landscape, but I like it anyway.

That is so special! The drama of intensity in their eyes..and each of their mouths are just the same, with that seriousness...as they wonder what will happen. I love the chickens...and the Judge standing there looking right back at that little girl...He looks so stern, too bad he didnt look more pleasant, maybe they wouldnt appear to be so afraid of what he is about to say. I like this photo a lot..ahhhh..my friend..there is so much more to life than landscape photography! lol....I love it when 'real life' dramas like this unfold...good shot!!

Reminds me of my days in 4-H. I didn't grow up on a farm, but I was in it.

The old arms crossed at the chest routine huh? This man is not about to let them know what he is thinking. I feel for the kids- I was in 4-H when I was younger also and know the feeling all too well. I bet they can feel the perspiration forming under their arms wondering who will win and the poor chickens are wondering who is going to end up as dinner for losing ..... Cute photo..... Thanks for posting........ :)

I love this picture. it made me laugh, mainly because I can't quite relate to the intensity of the situation. I mean, I'm sorry, but the fact that it's about chickens just make it so comical. And yet each of these kids look like they're about to be told which one's grandmother died. I love it. Great timing with the photography, it's definitely a great moment to be remembered!

Great photo! Really captures the emotion of the moment! While the judge looks stern he is probably trying to keep from smiling! Thanks for sharing!

Been thinking of what this reminded me of for the longest time...& then it hit me! It's so typical of a Norman Rockwell painting! He could always take an everyday happening & capture the faces, expressions, & humor involved with it. I think this would make a real nice Americana/Rockwell type painting!

Dan definitely hit one aspect of it on the head. I can see it drawn on the Saturday Evening Post cover. It may not have an index to make it but I love it. This is war, these are battle faces, nobody's breathing, He holds the key and he knows it.
