my son, a navy dentist, was stationed on this island which we had heard was "the pits". he said he really liked it. so, believing that we'd like what he liked we went to visit. it was absolutely spectacular. okinawa is a long skinny island. the little cities were packed with people living very close together. as soon as you get out of town and drive along the coast real beauty is to be seen

A great shot...brings back memories. I was stationed on Okinawa for two years. We called it 'the Rock'....that was the nice name.

Looks tropical doesn't it?A pretty sight..I think people somtimes judge a place because of history of events there....I know a Marine who also said it was a terrible place.he never spoke of its beauty.

I think that you could take a picture of the worst possible scene and it would turn out postcard perfect :) :) :) But this was a very pretty place to begin with, I realize, and I'm so glad you captured it and sent it along....love the little rock island out in the middle with the tree growing straight out the top!!! :)PJ

Another winner. I agree with Pat about the rock with the tree. Do you have any closer shots of that?

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being. - Hermes

How totally cool! I love that rock that has the trees growing out of it. Man, this is where I really want to be right about now.

My son is a Marine and he's up for a change of duty stations. Okinawa is one of the possibilities. He's not too excited about it, but maybe this pic would change his mind. It sure looks a far sight better than Iraq! Beautiful capture.

Beautiful water. My husband landed on Okinawa during the war. Too bad he wasn't able to enjoy the beauty. I like that little tree on top of that rock about midway into the image. great capture.
